FOUL STENCH - Interview
med: King Stench; Vokal & Guitar
Revolution-Music: Hallo. First of I would like to congratulate you on your new album “The Bone”.
King Stench: CHEEERRRSSS !!!!!!!!!!
Revolution-Music: Could you start out by introducing your self and tell us what part in the band you have?
King Stench: I'm am the vocalist / guitarist
Revolution-Music: How and why did you come up with the name “FOUL STENCH”? Does it have any special meaning?
King Stench: Came up with the name in 1990. Hanging out with Rotting Limb (Bass) and Smushed Cranium (drummer at that time) Where we practiced in a warehouse. Consuming alot of alcohol ! And trying to come up with a band name. Rotting Limb came up with the name. He said FOUL STENCH and we just started laughing hysterically ! We weren't going to use the name at first, but later on that night when I was sleeping, I woke up in the middle of the night and started laughing and thinking about the name FOUL STENCH. The next day I told the other members and we all agreed on the name FOUL STENCH , and have had that name from that day on ! The name FOUL STENCH represents who we were , our sound , and what we write about ; Filthy, Foul and vulgar shit !
Revolution-Music: How did you all come together, and became the band you are today?
King Stench: We were in Hiatus for almost 10 Years. And our fans wanted us back. So I called everyone up and told the band that we need to get FOUL STENCH back together. We tryed it with original drummer ( Smushed Cranium ) and ( Rotten Innards ) guitarist on the JIZMARK demo 1993. Smushed Cranium was a mess, homeless, and always to fucked up to play. So we had to get a drummer with no issues ! We found him. ( Stool Sample ) Ex-drummer of DECAY. We hit it hard and started recording ! And a new FOUL STENCH was born.
Revolution-Music: This album is released trough UKRAGH' PRODUCTIONS, how did the contract get established, and how are they to work with?
King Stench: The Label contacted us and liked what they heard ! And asked us to be on the Label . Edward from UKRAGH' PRODUCTIONS has been GREAT ! He has helped us get back on the map. I have seen his work, band support ! He's a great promoter, distribution. He works very hard for us and the other bands on his label.
Revolution-Music: Why did you choose the title “The Bone” for this record, does it have any special meaning?
King Stench: We originally was going to call the Title "Bone Orchard" but instead went with a simpler Title "The Bone" because we sing about Pussy and Fucking alot. So it made sense to call it "The Bone".
Revolution-Music: When you started working on this album, how long did the process take from the first step to the final product? Was it hard to write new material for this record or did it come naturally for you?
King Stench: The process went smooth, I actually recorded some of the songs first ( drums, guitar, bass and vocals on a 4 track recorder. Then let everyone in the band listen and learn . ) The other members picked up quick and added their own expertise and then some, to my songs. Then we all put our heads together and came up with a few more songs to complete " The Bone " I think it only took us a month or two before we went to the studio. Stool Sample ( Drums ) Started working with us on "The Bone c.d."in Late 2005. We distributed promo copies of " The Bone "for almost a Year. Then in 2007. Ukragh Productions added us to the Label.
Revolution-Music: Where did you record the album, and who produced it?
King Stench: We recorded at Refraze Studio in Kettering Ohio ( U.S.A. ) The album was produced by Ron Pease and FOUL STENCH
Revolution-Music: How was it to work with him?
King Stench: Ron Pease is a great engineer ! He really knows his work. Smart and Fast!
Revolution-Music: Are you trying to express something through your music?
King Stench: No, we just love Hard Core , Metal ! We like to record and see what reactions and feedback we get from our fans. We've had nothing but Killer Reviews and a great response from our music!
Revolution-Music: How has the album been received by the press, the critics and the fans so far?
King Stench: Like I said , We've had nothing but Killer reviews and a Great response from our fans. We must be doing something right to get this much attention!
Revolution-Music: What is your view on the group’s position in today’s music scene?
King Stench: I think that are in a Great position in todays music scene ! The scene is good ! Metal is back and is here to stay!
Revolution-Music: How would you compare the material on “The Bone” to your previous material?
King Stench: The material on "The Bone" is alot faster ! Better quality ! Sick, and a little old school, but up to date with the todays scene. Our previous material was recorded on reals. Quality wasn't as good. But the songs still Kicked Ass ! Alot of great responses and reviews from the Earlier material also!
Revolution-Music: How would you define your style?
King Stench: Our style is fast, vulgar and grinding ! .
Revolution-Music: What kind of stuff did you grow up listening to, and what kind new music do you listen to these days?
King Stench: I grew up listening to Early 80's rock, metal and punk. Now I listen to BEHEMOTH, M.O.D., D.R.I., BLACK SABBATH, SLAYER, ABOMINABLE PUTRIDITY, SQUASH BOWELS, THE MEATMEN (TESCO VEE)
Revolution-Music: Have any of these bands been source of inspiration for the album?
King Stench: Yes! BLACK SABBATH, SLAYER and D.R.I.
Revolution-Music: In your time as musicians, what is your biggest musical achievement so far?
King Stench: Our biggest musical achievement is this album "The Bone". Being added to Ukraine label UKRAGH PRODUCTIONS. and getting our c.d.'s distributed nation wide . Also making alot of new friends and fans.
Revolution-Music: Could we expect any European tour and maybe se the band in action here in Denmark any time soon?
King Stench: I would love to come to Denmark ( Europe ) and I'm sure the rest of the band also. I have family in Germany and Russia that I have never met. I would love to come to Europe sometime, No European Tour, soon. We wish ! Maybe one of these Years.
Revolution-Music: How did you think the music scene is in Europe, compared to the scene in the US?
King Stench: I think the music scene in Europe is Huge compared to the U.S.
Revolution-Music: What would be the ultimate tour, festival or show for you to play at?
King Stench: I love to play Metal Fests. It's been a long time sense we played a Fest or toured. We are like Bathory. We just write alot and record. We do play shows ,but not very often.
Revolution-Music: Do you have any breaking news with the bands?
King Stench: China label AREADEATH PRODUCTIONS is releasing FOUL STENCH ( The Beginning 1993-1996 ) full dicography of all the old demos and never before heard demos in May. plus UKRAGH' PRODUCTIONS (Ukraine) will be releasing FOUL STENCH new full length c.d.( 13 songs ) Titled FROZEN this Year also. plus we will start work on newer material (songs) Soon !!!!
